Mold in West York Homes
West York is a mix of twins and small detached houses, and the additions are where the stories change.
Two foundations, one address
An original basement plus a crawl under a later kitchen is normal here. The smell lives at the seam. Radon work for these houses is on the West York radon page; moisture follows the same seam.
Side yards
There is often no room for a heroic swale. The practical fix is a spout that does not end at the first mulch, a well cover, and a dehumidifier that actually drains. Interior paint is the last step, not the first.
Storage habits
These basements become the overflow for a small house. That is fine on shelves, off the floor, in plastic bins — not in cardboard against the block.

These pages are homeowner education from Radon Mitigation of York, written by Dave Kessler. They are not a medical diagnosis, a species identification, or an insurance determination. Color does not tell you which mold you have. If someone in the house is sick, talk to a physician. EPA's homeowner guidance treats roughly 10 square feet as the line where many people stop DIY cleanup and call a remediation crew — sooner if sewage, HVAC, or anyone immunocompromised is involved. We are a radon and basement crew. When we are already under a York house we will tell you what we see and what we would do in our own place. We do not pretend a radon fan is a mold remedy.
